Bought an HX10V last week and went to see Garbage in concert last weekend.  Here's a video I shot with the camera.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeHvDFwVRbs

Audio was recorded with my CA-11s/Edirol R-09HR

The camera did a decent job, but I don't like the fact you can't make minor adjustments to the exposure after you've hit record. Faces get blown out by spotlights if you guess the exposure wrong before hitting record. With the Canon cameras I've owned, you could adjust on the fly.
I shoot concert video and post my footage to YouTube

Hi all !

I'm using the HX9V for 6 months now  but I have several questions on it and on its successors :

- is it possible to set the exposure and that it remains how we've set it when we put the hx9v off ? I hate to have to put again EV -1.7 everytime I put it on again, because I often forget to do it !! and if yes please how ???
- Is there a way to avoid the zoom problem, I mean the fact that at the end of a zoom we lost the focus for an half-second ?
- Are the other versions better in this ? particularly the hx20v ? is the global focus better ? because when stroboscopic lights the hx9v can't keep a sharp image and it's VERY disturbing !

thanx in advance !

The problems you state didn't change in the HX10V if my camera's any indication. the EV settings always revert back to zero when I shut the camera off and turn it back on.
The zoom also loses a bit of focus towards the end of the zoom range. I'm assuming it's because the camera's making a switch between the outer barrel extension to the inner one.

On the plus side I used my HX10V at Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen a couple weeks ago with great results.

I am at work and don't have my camera handy . . . so I'm going on memory . . . and might not remember this correctly.  But for the Sony HX9V, the default is either the “Superior Auto” mode (the gold camera icon on the setting dial) or “Intelligent Auto” mode (the green camera on the setting dial). In both of those modes – the brightness will reset to the default setting of “0 EV” when you shut off the camera.  To stop it from resetting when you shut the camera off - use the “Program Auto” mode (the “P” on the setting dial – right next to the “Superior Auto” mode). The camera stays at whatever settings you use in this mode – even after shutting the camera off and turning it back on.

Anyone using the HX20V regularly?  I bought a 9V in May, but would have bought the 20V if it were not so pricey.  I think it has come down some since.  From the specs it looked like a significant improvement over the 9V.  Just checking in to see if anyone who uses the 20V can discuss.  Thanks!  (oh and THANK YOU guitard for the useful info about keeping the settings with the 9V :-)

I think we've all fumbled around in the dark trying to quickly change out a battery and forgot to re-set the exposure before starting to film again . . . and then started cussing when we saw the over-exposed picture in the LED screen and realized what we had just done wrong.
