bass_ur_face, are your microphones the AKG C 451 EB from the 1970s, which were very power-hungry (~6 mA per microphone at 48 Volts!), or are they the more recent (electret) C 451 B that only take about 1/3 as much current?
(If you have the older type, its capsules are readily removable / replaceable / interchangeable with capsules of other patterns from the same series. The newer type is a fixed-pattern cardioid.)
