Too add my 2 cents, I used a Cabela's tackle bag to haul my gear around for years. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the lack of dividers in the main compartment and the fact it might have had a little too much space - rather than plan accordingly, it was easy to just dump a lot of gear into it, weight be damned. That said, it was built like a beast. I still have it to store my less-often-used items.
That's the main issue with soft-sided coolers with the plastic tub insert. You need to devise your own dividers. But that said, one can get pretty creative in doing so.
Apologies in advance for this slight thread jack in a different bag-related direction-
I have been using Gun Range bags

I've been meaning to find something like a large rectangular padded zippered target pistol bag in which I can carry my entire folded compact-rig stand, all pre-wired with retracted telescopic TV antenna mic bar and 6 or more miniature mics already attached to it. It's intended as a replacement for the small kid-sized folding chair sack I currently use (you know, the ubiquitous drawstring bag with a shoulder strap which comes with every folding "stick chair") which has no padding and is a pain to get the apparatus in and out of easily without windscreens falling off and such. This bag is not intended for the recorder, batteries, umbrella, and other stuff which goes in a separate recorder bag.
The stand is the standard small Manfrotto 001B-
Here's a couple shots of the small chair bags I've used for it, which I've posted around TS previously-
Looking for something with a nice faux-fur liner, good padding, and a full-zipper opening so it opens up like a book. Needs to be about 8" wide X about 26" long. Also best if i's simply rectangular instead of pistol shaped and doesn't look too much like a gun case! If anyone has a good suggestion, please let me know.
