Great battery with everything needed: Lots of capacity, simple on/off switch operation, separate 12V, 9V & 5V outputs, a reliable meter, charges via 12V input.

You can power it from the 9V. The V3 works fine on 9V it's just throwing away some of the current as heat which is not ideal but perfectly safe. 5V will not do it.

^ This.

Also if I recall, in addition to being lower voltage, the 5V (via USB port) is more current limited in comparison to the 9V and 12V coaxial port.

[Edit to correct- scratch that.  Just looked up specs. See below]

12V Output (DC5521) 12V/6A max.
9V Output   (DC5525) 9V/1A
5V USB   5V/2A max.

Grace V3 Power Consumption
6-12VDC 600-1000mA (depending on A/D settings and microphone type)

Regardless, I've not had a problem running V3 from the 9V port along with a recorder from the 12V port.

cheaper ones are usb out, I believe the v3 needs a “ring/tip” connector
