i plan on doing 24/48 in the future. i have a mini me and a lappy w/ wavelab installed. can i just go mini me->lap top via  usb cable? or do i need to upgrade my computer's soundcard? thanks in advance for the help.

You shouldn't have to upgrade the sound card for recording if you are using the USB. To record, all you need is the MiniMe's drivers installed and Wavelab *should* be able to recognize the MiniMe. If I remember correctly, you have to set the MiniMe as the recording source in Options>Preferences>Audio Card.
