Foobar2000 settings for 24 bit playback?
« on: July 07, 2005, 11:57:08 AM »
What settings do you guys recommend for Foobar2000 for 24bit playback?  (I have an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 soundcard) Should I leave the standard settings that it installs with as is?... or do I need to tweak some things to get it to play true 24 bit?

for example...

I want to have Output set to waveOut?

Do I want to disable the ReplayGain?

Output Data Format at 16 bit fixed or should I bump this up to 24 bit fixed?  If I do change this to 24 bit, will it still play my 16 bit files correctly without having to switch it back?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help!

IMO, you should also always have replaygain disabled. It's basically a normalizer across album tracks. Set the output directly, in case you ever want to change your windows settings but keep the audiophile as your playback device. Foobar's options can be overwhelming, but it's a great program.
Out of the game … for now?

One more question.. have any of you used the ASIO output plug-in?  Thoughts on that, good or bad?

thanks

if it works with your soundcard, my understanding is that ASIO is the way to go as it avoids possible resampling, etc.

hey guys, I just installed foobar special... I'm not getting any sound

I went into preferences and output and changed all of the settings to my vx pocket

when I press play it doesn't appear that the tracks actually begin playing, the slider bar up top never progresses and the time on the bottom never moves from 0:00

any thoughts?

i get the same thing using the asio plugin from here, which is the one that is supposed to work...

i used one in winamp wayback when (before foobar was developed, and that one was easy to use...

i really dont know, but the thread i linked to should have some answers for you...

looks like i am using waveout for a little while longer... but please post back here if you get it (foobar, asio, ap2496) running. good luck and +t

(hell, i was happy to have finally gotten milkdrop/projectm to work today, and then this comes up :P)

where you set output (16 bit fixed, etc.), but you have to check the box that says something like "show all options"

I've never set the output, when I'm in preferences and go to output I have the 4 outputs (waveout etc) listed but I've never seen or set anything about bitrate

pref > playback > there will be an output pull down about halfway down the page

yeah I've been there, nothing about bitrate except in the kernal output and that just says that it's optimized for 16bit
