Topic: any one just running mics ->R1 with no pre?

Still undecided on what to get for my first rig.  I was thinking about the ACM 660 from oade but I could pick up the oade mod R1 for a couple hundred less and put the extra to mics and maybe get a pre later.  I originally had $1200 or so for a set up but ran into some car problems.  Now I'm just going to buy stuff piece by piece until I'm in running shape.  I figure this way I might come across something cool that's used.  The ACM 660 sure seems nice though and I do want simplicity

you could go mics -> battery box -> Line in for not much more $$$.   Also, the R-1 does 24bit, and I think the 660 doesn't.
