Unwanted noise/skips while transfering DATs?!?!?!
« on: December 20, 2005, 09:17:41 AM »
so, i was trying to transfer a DAT last night (tascam da-mk30II > digi coax input on my pc > sound forge/cdwav.) and when I would go back and listen to the show, I noticed LOTS of skips in the playback.  Along with lots of unwanted noise that really muck up the shows to where I wouldn't even post them.

This boggles me, b/c when I play the DAT through my stereo, the tapes are fine.  Any ideas as to what is going on and what I can do to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and I hope I posted this in the right forum!  ;)

sounds like your soundcard is not set up right (or is sharing an IRQ with another high-bandwidth piece of hardware on your pc).

What soundcard are you using?  how much ram, what processor speed, how much free disk space, what OS, etc.

Processor Brand Intel
Processor Class: Pentium 4
Processor Speed: 3 GHz
Installed Memory: 1 GB

Not at home to check the RAM, but it's a new pc. But, I have tons.  As well as tons of free disc space.

I had a similar problem years ago when I set up my soundcard, and tracked the problem down to too short a latency setting.  Increased the latency, problem solved.  Something to check out, anyway.

I had a similar problem with my laptop.  I disabled my wireless port and shut down all other applications and it fixed it.
