Perhaps you should send the unit to SD and have them run the same tests as you until it fails....

Yeah, thats what I'm hoping to do but with spring shows coming up it's difficult to let go of the unit for very long.   I should have done this during last months dry spell.

In anycase, I've been living with the workaround, which is 2GB splits.  I just keep wondering if anyone else has seen the problem.  I can't believe that SD would not have run a test like this, but they ship with 40G drives so there may be some issue using the larger storage that their testing doesn't cover.  I've never run with CF.  That might be an interesting test.

SD might send you a loaner unit if you let them secure the funds for it with a credit card....I would ask them.

I just ran line in silence. My venture to guess would be your drive. I am still using the stock 40GB drive. I know nothing over 130GB is seen on bigger drives....so that would leave me to believe larger drives might handle data a bit different? I dunno.

PS...I have not had the v2 hardware upgrade either.

I have just started testing on my unit. 96/24 4GB split. My unit has a 40G disk though. Will report back in a few days time.

The only association I get (which may have nothing at all with this to do) may be a heat problem with the hard disk -- the machine can get rather hot when inside a totally closed bag and disks are indeed made differently.

I should also mention that I ran the 24/192 sample up to 7 splits. There was less than 2 hours on drive when I stopped it. The 24/96 sample I did did not fill drive. I always run at 24/96 and never encounter(ed) any issues.  ;D

Something tells me its specific to your HDD in the unit. Buy another and if you get same results return drive to said store for a refund. ;)

Definitely not a heat problem.  I ran my tests at ambient room temp and the 722 was barely warm after running all day.

Thank you both very much for running the tests.

Yeah, I may need to try another drive.  I could always use the current drive to update my laptop.

I just got 2 of these

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152032

They are the same as the ones SD is using, only larger.

I am working on rigging one into an external enclosure and will slap the other one in the recorder tonight.
If it works out I can send you my old drive if you want to run some tests.  It is 40G

Third full hard-disk. Not a problem. I will stop testing now. Looks like Lil Kim Jong-Il has some problem that is not inherent to the 722-s in general. Might be specific for the unit, or maybe the new hard-disk installed. If the problem persists after changing hard disk, I personally would definitely recruit the help of the factory to see where the problem is. They have been very good in supporting the units before, my unit as example is now upgraded to 2.0 HW status without cost to me (I had to pay transport to the distributor).

Gunnar thanks.  Yeah it might be my drive.  I have zero doubt that this situatoin was a factor in SD dropping the 722RAW option.

fozzy, maybe you should try it again before hitting the field with the new drive.  So far everyone who reports no problems is using the stock 40GB drive.

Let me get past the next couple of shows and I'll decide if I want to borrow your old drive.  I have a couple of local options for backup if I decide to send in the 722 for the V2 update.

Thanks again both of you for the help.

been recording the TV for about 3hrs now w/ the new drive.

I am going to run the SxSW jambase showcase to give it a good 5-6hrs in the field.  There will be at least 3 other tapers there so no big deal if it craps out.

I never take mine out of the PB I forgot how pretty it is.
