Topic: Splitting a soundboard patch

Instead of having to fight someone for the matrix out of a soundboard, would it be possible to carry around some extra split adapters like this to split the signal out of the board? Also, would this screw with the signal quality/strength?

Also, does anyone know where i could find an adapter like the one above but with female 1/4 plugs instead of rca? Or would i just need to find two cables with a male 1/4" on one side, and 2 female 1/4" plugs on the other side? Do they make these?

I carry a rca patch bay at all times...picked it up from radio shack for maybe 20 bucks.  does require AC power, but then so does the rest of my rig (I run matrices 99% of the time) and since you are at the soundboard there should be some available there in most cases.

I have a pair of cheapy RCA splitter cables that I picked up from Radio Shack. I've used them exactly once, but they did come in handy that night. I'd suggest looking at RS or maybe asking one of the cable makers on here what they can whip up.

RS will have just about any adapter you need for this.

FWIW, I had Leegeddy build me a pair of XLR splitters - 2 cables, 1xfXLR -> 2xmXLR each.  These worked great for comps, but also in splitting a signal at the board.  I'm sure any one of the cable gurus could build you a similar pair.

frtower uses a pair of audio magic xlr splitters that he got from Sonic Sense for this.
Works great, with no real degradation in signal quality.

I can make you a pair next week when I get some more connectors (depending on how bad Markertek shorts me on my order). PM me if interested.

They are kinda heavy (six XLR connectors) but worth it.
Also handy for splitting a mono board patch to a stereo so you don't have to do it in post.
