In europe there is a brand called Hama and they have a beefy optical cable with the width of canare star quad, right angle ends and metal ends to keep the optical tip in place, this thing is a rock.  If you can find one online I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the lead!
Hama seems to have a huge catalogue... I couldn't find anything like the TMOC-RA, but at least they have a cable with right angle on one side:

I'll look around some more, maybe I'll take up BigRay's generous offer if nothng else shows up. I owe you one!

I'll chime in on my bad experiences with the Sound Pro's optical cables. First I ordered a RA toslink > RA toslink. DID NOT work with a Radio Shack toslink>mini adapter while connecting my UA-5 to my jb3. So I called Sound Pro's and swapped it for the RA toslink > RA mini. That also DOES NOT work with the UA-5 / jb3 combo; all kinds of static and dropouts.

FWIW the 3 ft. toslink > toslink Radio Shack optical cable with Radio Shack toslink>mini adapter has worked PERFECTLY countless times.

But due to the many others that have had good experiences with Sound Pro optical cables, I believe it has something to do with my own gear.

So if anyone knows of another RA toslink > RA mini optical, lmk because I'd like to try it out...

The Sound Pros Toslink to mini has been flawless for me going UA-5 > JB3.  Doing the tos > tos cable with a mini adapter is where I ran into static/ drop out issues.  Interesting that you found the exact opposite.  I guess that's why we each stick with what works best for us as individuals.
