I'm thinking about buying one... will this sway me in one direction or another between this unit and the Denon 3910?

I'd wait on the sp1000 until they get a fix for the audio sync issue.  If you can use the delay in the receiver I guess you wouldn't have to worry about it.  I can't decide on anything right now.  With WSp coming back to tour I can't figure out if I should pick up some used taping gear.  Then I would like a new pre/pro for the HT, but until Anthem SHIPS with HDMI I don't think I will budge.  I'm also waiting on a nice Rowland multichannel or EAD 7300 to show up on audiogon.  The wife is on me for a new sub that better fits the room, in looks that is.  The longer wait can't hurt as more $$ can be spent and I'm fairly happy with what I have now.  I would really like to send a digital video signal to the FP though, which brings me to the Sp1000.

Scott,

I haven't heard of any "audio sync" issues with the Integra 10.5. Why not give that a look? That is our most popular universal unit right now...

They are the same unit and from what I hear both have the issue.  The fact that the price is $1K more is also a big negative.

They are not the same unit. The integra is made with a few higher grade components. I can find out specifics for you if you would like, but they are not the same unit.

Please do as it has been reported that there are a few different features and that is about it.  Now the Integra Research is a different story.

Damn... always gotta be something with these players.  I just need a new DVD player, SACD player and CD player all at the same time and was trying to find a decent 'all-in-one' without breaking the bank.  The Onkyo and the Denon 3910 were looking to be decent, but lately they've been getting some harsh reviews.  Any other suggestions out there?  What's the pricing like on the Integra 10.5?

I'm gonna run out to the local shop sometime soon and check out the latest from Marantz too, I guess.

Jason,

I had time to check into the two players.  Based on all the material I could find, the only difference is that the 10.5 has RS232 port.  Every spec is the same, weight is the same, wolfson DAC's etc.  If you can show me proof that they are different great, but until then I will say they are the same player with the same issues.  The retail price is different- Integra $2500  Onkyo- $2000

This is not some holy war. It's no big deal. Our Integra rep says it's not the exact same unit internally. He explained all this to us in detail a while ago, I have just simply forgotten. I'll ask him the next time he comes in.

I'm not trying to start anything, just would like to understand the differences.  I can't find any except for the RS232 port.  From the looks of it they are the same player using basically the same components.  I'm just thinking the Integra name has something to do with the $500 price jump.  It is known there are other features within the menu that are different, but the many I would use are the same.  Either way they are both a great player and most of the issues with both are either fixed or going to be fixed with new firmware.

I wish I could remember what he explained to me, but I just can't. It was something along the lines of better internal electronics. Caps, resistors, and shit like that. He comes in about once a month, so when he drops by next, I'll ask him to refresh my memory. I may even have him step in here and explain it himself...

Then I would like a new pre/pro for the HT, but until Anthem SHIPS with HDMI I don't think I will budge.

Not sure what you have come up with, but I got this from Anthem...

"Hardware upgrades - some preliminary info:

Scheduled for release in spring 2005 (exact timing not known since it's
under development), we're currently putting together hardware upgrades for
the AVM 20/30 and Statement D1 that will include:

- IEEE 1394 input for DVD-A and SACD (3 inputs)

- HDMI inputs (4) and HDMI output (1).  HDMI also accepts DVD-A.

- Video transcoding - composite video and S-Video digitally converted to
component video, and all three to HDMI.  (Note that "upconversion", a term
often used for analog conversion methods, can be misleading and usually
looks good only on a feature sheet because the component video output can
look pretty bad compared to original S-Video input.)

- Statement D1 will have also have a scaler for component Video and HDMI
outputs, user-selectable up to 1080p.  A scaler matches the resolution of
the input to the resolution of a fixed-pixel display such as plasma, LCD,
DLP, etc (and even though a scaler may be present elsewhere in the system,
there is nothing that says they all perform the same way).

- Component Video switching will be added to Zone 2.

DVI - Connectors won't be added because DVI can be connected to HDMI input
via adapter for the picture, and audio portion can be connected to any
digital audio input jack, then re-assigning it to HDMI input in the setup
menu.

Prices to be announced when actual release date is approached."

Yeah, I've seen that.  It was supposed to be Dec so I'm not planning anything until they can assure I won't need to send back for an upgrade.

As far as the SP1000 is concerned, the lip sync issue is currently being worked in Japan with no scheduled firmware or other fix.  I've yet to hear this or the Integra unit and with the price of $1700 @ vanns.com I may opt for the Denon 3910.  The Denon has better BM. My wife and I went out in the snow on Sat. to look at the Deon and not one place had it hooked up via DVI or HDMI to a DLP FP.  One was willing to hook it up to a Runco 710, but I may just buy them both and evaluate them in my system depending on the return policy.  As long as I won't toss away a ton of cash this is the way I'm headed.

Jason,
Any update?
