14's sound better, but are larger and have a windscreen that can't be removed.

11's have interchangeable caps (omni/cards).

If you are new to the game, 11's make great starter mics.

And CA-11's do sound great as well. If not making a direct comparison of the same material recorded by each mic in the same position, it would be hard for most people to tell the difference, I think.

Thanks,I am trying not to spend too much. Most of my recording is done in a small club, but once in a while I try to get some arena shows.I have a lot more trouble getting good results at the arenas, but from what I have read these 2 mics get very good reviews. If the ca-14's are the better mic I would spend the extra couple of bucks.

Hi

For small clubs I would choose the CA14 omni. Anyway - card or omni - I would prefer the 14 about the 11

They really sound better.

Regards
Recorder: Sony PCM M10 red

This makes it sound like there's a glaring, immediately apparent difference, such as between the internal mics of an R-09 and the internal mics of an M10.

Maybe its just me, but I think they both sound great and it will take a close comparison of the same material recorded by the 2 mics to be able to hear any difference. I made some incredible sounding recordings with CA-11's before I got CA-14's. I am comparing the cards to the cards, though. I can't compare the omnis-I have no need for CA-14 omnis since I have DPA 4060's.

Perfect for loud stuff. For very quiet stuff you will eventually want to add a ST-9100 preamp to use instead of the battery box. The R-09's preamp becomes noisy when you have to add too much gain.
