Has anyone ever had problems getting a Sony portable, particularly a D7 or D8, to accept a digital signal from the spdif coax out of the V3?
I haven't had problems myself, but after John R's post in the patching thread and a thread in the CO Crew, I got to wondering. The spdif standard calls for a digital one to be represented by a +0.5v signal level. This is the signal level the V3 outputs on its coax output, conforming to the standard. But it is my understanding that sony portables do not conform to the spdif standard (ironically, it's the Sony-Philips Digital InterFace standard, sony designed it, but then ignores it). The D7/D8 output and expect a +4.5v level, the M1/D100 output a +3.3v level. I've always been lead to believe this is why D8's can't get a signal from D100's -- they expect 4.5v but the M1/D100 only put out 3.3v.
But if the V3 only puts out the standard's +0.5v, why aren't people having problems connecting D8's up to the V3?
