I finally did it..JB3 question
« on: March 24, 2005, 09:53:17 AM »
Ok..so I've posted on this board  a few times and have been reading your posts for the past few months and finally decided to break down and buy myself a JB3. I just got it today and it's been fun playing around with it, but I really have no idea what I am doing. It didn't come with an instruction manual so I feel I have a lot to learn. And I am sorry if any of my questions sound stupid, but from reading the list you all seem friendly and willing to help a newbie.

Anyway...my biggest question is what do I need to download? It came pre loaded with the newest 1.40.06 firmware...but what the hell do I download as far as applications and drivers? (I use Windows XP if it makes any difference) I was fooling around and for the applications I downloaded Creative NOMAD Explorer (Version 3.01.10) and for the drivers I downloaded Jukebox Driver version 1.26.02. Was this the right choice? I don't have any editing software at the moment (except for CD Wave Editor)...so once I actually pull my first recording...how do I transfer the recordings? I actually ran a recording I made from MiniDisc into the JB3 and recorded about 10 minutes worth and it. I then (after some hastle) uploaded it onto my computer and had a hard time figuring out how to find the file to open in CD Wave Editor. I messed around a bit and somehow dragged it into a new folder I made where it copied/transfered into the folder. I was happy that I did something that felt right, but now when I click on the Nomad Explorer icon on my
desktop...it says not connected? I'm totally lost and would appreciate any assistance I can get to be up and running.

I'm looking forward to finally being a JB3er and I am grateful to belong to such a great community.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.
Take care,
Shawn

as far as the connection between the JB3 and the puter, I went w/ firewire instead of USB.  It is now way faster, and I don't get the "Not Connected" error anymore.  You can also use Notmad Explorer instead of the Creative Explorer.  It's $25, but it's much better IMO.  Also make sure that your JB3 is turned on and booted up before trying to connect to it.  The JB3 can be flaky, just stick w/ it and you'll figure it out.  Make sure you check the "JB3 FAQ"post at the top of this board too...

Go to www.creative.com and go to "support" then choose your country, and language, and then you will see an option called "software auto detect" or software auto update" make sure your jb3 is plugged in (I always use usb for this cuz firewire seems flaky on this part) and into the pc, then click on the auto update thing, and itll tell you exactly what you need for the jb3 AND the pc.
This always works great for me.
