mme power question (part 2)
« on: December 14, 2003, 04:38:42 PM »
first off, i am buying stuff to build a rc pack for my new mme

i have a rev c mme. and i can run it from 6v to 12v

i think it has a 800mah drain max. so would this differ when say using a 3000mah 9.6v or using a 3000mah 7.2v?

what i am wondering, does it draw the same mah to operate no matter what voltage it is running on?

would there be any reason to buy 9.6v packs over the 7.2v packs?

Yes, the higher wattage will yield less power drain.  I forget the formula, but I believe it is in the archives.  By going to 9.6v's, you will get longer run time at the same mah than using 7.2's.  I hope this helps

definantly helps. there isnt really a price difference or weight difference beetween the 7v and the 9.6v rc packs

i couldnt find a formula anywhere for this deal. i would love to check it out though!

if this formula is right and i assume schwilly has his shit together, the power drain at 9.6v is 500mah and at 7.2v is 666.67.  had to do this little equation to make sure i was still proficient in math as it seems i struggle in every class i take in school

but i can get ~6hrs from one 3000mah hr 9.6

that is alot of runtime. i might just buy another 1800mah 9.6 and be set. but il probably just buy one 3000mah 9.6 and be done with it!

thanks schwilly....

i think you need to reconsider these calculations....according to this thread...http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=14;action=display;threadid=2460

the mme's power consumption is 5.5W http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/minime.php?show=features

I = P/V
5.5W/9.6V = 0.572A = 572mA

( Battery Capacity [mAH] / Current Draw [mA] ) * ( .80 )
3000mA / 572mA = 5.24h * 0.8 = 4.2 hours

personally unless you really really hate lugging SLAs around, i'd go pick up a 12V or even a 6V, definitely cheaper than those battery packs.  for example the battery i just built....

12V 7.5Ah will last me ~13 hours and although it's not tiny, neither is the mme.  i dunno, batteries are the last thing i like to skimp on, learned my lesson.

i would rather spend a few extra bucks on 2-3 3000mah rc packs than ever lug around an sla!
