Quick Church CA-9100 Question
« on: November 22, 2011, 11:51:33 PM »
So I think I have this right but just want to be sure.  Can you all let me know if this is true or false.

1.) The CA-9100 has +20dB of available gain.

2.) 11 O'Clock is unity on CA-9100 and full gain is at 5 O'Clock.

3.) Anything below 11 O'Clock is attenuation.

If someone can just confirm these with me that would be great.  I am trying to work out some measurements and want to be sure that I have the initial info correct.

Thanks!

I never knew that...so could I use my CA9100 pre to tame a hot SNB feed?

I'm about 95% positive that you can do this.  I've been meaning to try but have had my friends Tascam 680 each time I've had board access.  :)

OK, here's the flip-side question: can I use my CA-9100 to boost a quiet soundboard feed? I've been recording an acoustic duo (two vocal mics, two acoustic guitars, with everything run through the PA) using the "rec out" RCA jacks on the board right into the line-in on my JB3. The "normalize" program can add about 28dB of gain after the fact, and I've been thinking about trying something else/additional, either by adding gain on the JB3 while it's recording, or putting something else between the rec-outs and the JB3. The normalized recording sounds fine, so it isn't a big deal, but it's something I'd like to try if it's not too dumb an idea.

Brad

Very strange Bean, I've never run mic in with my 9100/m10 combo and had plenty of levels...way more than even needed

Do you have your M10 on the low sensitivity setting?

Isn't the sensitivity level switch for the mic input only, not the line input?

Yep, you are correct there Belexes.  That being said, I don't know what would have caused Bean's problem with gain.  Maybe his mics have very low sensitivity?  Just thinking aloud now...
