Title: 5 conductor mic cable, will DMX512 cables work?
Post by: notlance on July 07, 2008, 10:22:42 AM
I have a couple of stereo mics and I'm looking for some extra 5 conductor cables.  DMX512 cables (usually used to control lights) are common and cheap and have the correct XLR5 connector, but will they work OK as a mic cable?

OR, does anybody know a good place to buy 5 conductor mic cables?  Thanks.

You might try www.mouser.com (one of my favorite suppliers) for wire, ready-made cable, and connector parts, but there are many other suppliers with similar selection of materials.

Another idea that I have done is to use a quad cable, like Canare star quad. It has 4 lines and a ground in one cable.

how much do you need?

I have some 5-conductor shielded mil-spec silver clad cable and I already used what I needed of it.
