Been wondering this for a while now...
Is there a "proper" way to measure the 17 or 20 cm for ORTF, DINa, and DIN? (I suppose it would apply to X/Y too)
Front-center of mic/capsule to front-center of the other one?
Mid capsule to mid capsule?

I measure from where the diaphragm is. If that's at the front of the cap, great, if it's in the middle, fine. In my experience, for most small condenser mics, that's around 1cm (maybe 2cm) in from the front of the cap, exceptions apply.

Thanks guys.
I've always measured center to center, just because it seemed like the most logical way to do it.
Diaphragm to diaphragm makes alot of sense too.
Just wanted to clarify, since 3 cm is not much, and (at least with my AKG caps) DINa measured center-to-center would be the same as DIN measured end-to-end.

It should be measured from the centre of the diaphragm.
