I have no experience with CAD....  but I've run into people who use and love the CAD mics........  the people that I've seen using em are typically in a music school of some sort...  for what that's worth, I don't know.  I don't think that the specs are the greatest, but like I said...  the people who use em seem to dig em.

check out the modded ones
I think that you can buy pre modded matched pairs

I think for the money they are great mics
though - I have not had any personal experience with them

I like the e70 and came up with the capacitor mod for it. I also just received one of mine back from Herb Singleton's Cross Spectrum Labs where a frequency-response graph and a set of polars for the cardioid capsule with the capacitor-modified body were generated. It has a pronounced presence peak starting at around 8 kHz. It is up around 7 dB at 10 - 12 kHz. It is also ruler-flat from 20 Hz to about 4 kHz, thus, it is definitely not lacking for bass response. This is a bright, crisp mic if that's what you're looking for (and the price is right).

I love my e70's run them anytime I want to enjoy the show and not worry about my rig running 30-50 yards away unattended :)

Hmm, these sound like interesting mics (or crappy, depending on whose opinions you're considering ;) ).

I've tried a bunch of lower cost condensors -- oktava mc012, Studio Projects C4's, Busman-mod Avant ck1's (same as Busmans SD mics from what I understand), ADK SC-T's.  Hadn't heard of these before though.

Chris -- I see you've been liking your modded pair a lot.  Q on frequency plots:  did you get both plots for both the omnis and cards, or just the cards?  Any chance you can scan them and upload them?  Different I know since yours have the capacitor mod, I'm still very curious to see them though.

I only had the cardioid capsule tested. I could link to the pdf file but it has my home address on it. If I can figure out how to delete it I can post a link to it.

Regarding the HF boost, just pretend it's a Schoeps MK3  :)

Totally understandable.  If you have easy access to a scanner, you could take the old school way of just making a copy and marking out the address and scan it, but no problem at all if it's a hassle.

As to the high freq bump, I actually normally much prefer that type of response, esp for distance recording.  My milabs have a 6-7db bump centered around 10k Hz.  Sometimes I have to tame that area, but most often it sounds better to my ear with the bump.

I suspect some people don't like any mic which isn't a Schoeps or doesn't cost more than $1,000.

Well never mind now... when I posted this thread they were 49.95    I suspect they are fine 100/pair mics.

Think of them as Schoepses at 1/20th of the price :D

Well that blows.  I had a show I taped last night, and I figured that before I just jumped in for mics I may not need, I'd at least give the omnis I already have a whirl.

So I taped, listened to the tapes, figured yes I will probably pick up these CADs, come to this thread to see if there is any new info on them, and now the price is 3x higher. >:(

Oh well, I'm probably skipping them at this point.

Most of these mic's mentioned today I have not listened to. But one note I learned along time ago is lower cost mic's (there is a threshold) can sound very good. The difference how ever comes in the matching of the two mic's. Hence the desire for matched pairs. It really affects the imaging. Part of the cost is the hand matching that goes on.

Would one of you guys that have these mics be able to snap some pictures of the capsules (front and back)?
I suspect that the capsules might be interchangeable with the MXL 603/604 and other Chinese clones.

Those pics look pretty good to me.
I'd bet those CAD capsules will work on the 22mm Chinese mics. It's just a matter of whether those capsules sound any better than the stock MXL 604 Chinese capsules that a lot of people call too bright.  ??? I found someone that will sell me two of the e70 cardioid capsules for $110. I'm just not sure I want to gamble that much on whether they are any better.
