Church Audio ST9100 vs Core Sound Cardioids
« on: March 05, 2007, 11:36:35 AM »
In a nutshell....buying a simple set up for 'stealth' concert recording...decided on a Edirol R-09, but hovvering on the mikes.
I've had contact with both Core Sound and Church-Audio, both seem fine to me, it's the PRODUCT I'd like anyone's advice about?
Regards
Andy

I'd go with Church Audio Cards.

From everything I've read on these forums, Church-Audio seems like it's definitely the way to go.

In fact, I just sent Chris a PM this weekend because I'm also in the market for a preamp (just picked up some new mics myself).

Next payday I'm also going to pick up A set of Church Audio cards & ST-9100 preamp. For those few stealth occasions.

I don't have any experience with Core Sound, but really like my Church Audio pre and mics (with my Edirol R09)

i have done business with Len at CS - bought a pair of CSBs in '01 and CSCs in '02.  last year my CSCs started only recording in one channel so i talked with Len and sent them in for repair.  about 4 MONTHS later i get my mics back with the explanation that nothing was wrong with them.  they do record both channels now (which is strange that they come back and are able to do that), but i can't get a peak of over about -25db even with the gain on my DAT on 10 and staning right in front of a stack (not to record, but just to see if i could get a higher level).  i have no clue what he did, but i am not about to send them back to him for another look unless he could promise and deliver a quick turnaround - not betting that will happen.

on a side note, i haven't dealt with Church Audio, but am thinking of getting a pre-amp from him when i decide to go back to my stealth setup - mainly doing open taping now.

peace,
ts

church>core sound

if not for the customer service alone
SP-CMC-4 (AT853) > SP-SPSB-1 (no rolloff) > Tascam DR-05

LOL guess you can't exactly beat a customer service "team" that posts on the same forum as its customers! ;D
