Title: recomended headphones?
Post by: Big Muff on January 04, 2004, 11:48:52 AM
hi, and happy new years!

I'm in need of some good head-phones.
I mainly need them when doing matrix mixes at the show.. hoping to spend under $100.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
-Mike

Lots of discussion on headphones in the past...have you tried an Advanced Search (http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=10460)?

I would recommend the Sony MDR V6 or 7506 headphones.  The V6 is not to be confused with the V600 headphones.

It's a closed design and is used quite often in studio's and radio stations for monitoring.

For matrixing on-site in an open concert environment, you really want either closed (gloco has recommended a couple) or in-ear phones.  I highly recommend the in-ear Etymotic ER-6, and they're only slightly above your $100 budget.  WELL worth it, IMO.  They do a great[/i job attenuating external sounds, can be driven easily by most on-board headphone amps, and sound mighty fine.
