Subject almost says it all. Instead of a protective box as many of us have seen -- problems with heat, etc.. -- has anyone seen or is anyone willing to make a protective frame that will mainly take the load off the cables?

Anyone? I think that a frame would work much better than a solid / heavy / wood box.

if all you need to do is take a load off your cables just use right angle cables.

Its not the XLR's that are really the problem. Its the power/SPDIF cable coming out that is annoying

Also search the Rig Pics forum for the keyword "Target" and you'll probably find some more cage pics.  I know a handful of people have made similar style cages from shelving units picked up at Target or Walmart or some such.  Looks to me like it would work real well for your application.

I took some extra closet wire shelving. Used leftover pick & pluck foam on the bottom & duct taped it together. Pretty getto but worked just fine.

But, I run in a wood box now.

ive always been really surprised that no one has ever hardwired a cable to their 1k.

I had some wooden boxes made for some folks...see the thread just a few down.

I might be able to get one or two more of the boxes if needed.

What I was thinking of in my head was if you took your wooden box and basically just left the frame of it. Maybe leave the sides alone but essentially cut out the middle of the top and bottom leaving the sides -- kinda like cutting out the middle of a piece of bread and leaving the crust.

The consensus when I had he box built was that the box needed to be strong as well as vented.

Tad has a box like you're talking about...just a frame or the apogee.

Divided - did you check out the pic to the cage/frame provided?  I believe it'll provide precisely the sort of functionality you desire.  And cost effectively, at that.  Does this not match your requirements?  If not, how so?  We may be able to brainstorm something else with all the Apogee users we have here.
