vms02ib operation owner's instruction manual
« on: January 10, 2006, 11:15:16 PM »
note: I edited the title so people could get to Teddy's UL of the vms02ib operator's manual.

I asked the previous owner, Jon Wolff,  as I am about to give this thing a fly at an all night gig this weekend in Shinjuku.  He answered the question about which set of BNCs I come out of into the SBM (the left ones, marked I and II).  He was confused about the next question....

The toggle on the back above the phones jack.  To the right (I/II) or to the left (MS: L/R)?  What the heck is it for?  For decoding a MS recorded on the L + R channels?  One set of BNCs (left set) are marked in and out, I am supposed to use these to connect to the the A/D.  But at what point do they become inputs rather than outputs?

I would equate I and II to L and R in a standard setup, and as indicated on the box - I = M and II = S in a mid/side configuration.

So if you're not running figure 8, the switch should be to the left.

actually the switch is for the headphone monitoring, assuming that you are doing the mid-side on the fly.

i've never used the BNC connectors for input, i think it is misleading.

While I can't read German, if there's illustrations and more complete specifications page not found in the English version, maybe we can glean useful information regardless.

Please give it a scan and hope some of our German speaking members can help with at least the gain settings options covered somewhere in the 20 page German language version that is supposed to be on the missing page 6 of the English version.

They work as an input when you want to do post-decoding using the VMS.  So you'd connect the source output to I/II, and the destination to L/R.  But these days, most people decode digitally in post.
