active monitors: 2.0 or 2.1
« on: November 16, 2004, 02:42:05 PM »
I'm looking to upgrade my monitors(currently use Edirol UA-10D) and have set my budget at $400.
I *need* something that can go cleanly down to 25-30Hz, so I probably need a 2.1 setup

any suggestions on a system that can give good, relatively clean power but is also balanced(not overpowering/overpowered bass) or would a good set of cans be a better alternative?

thanks

*edit for typo of Edirol monitor series*

KRK V4 for the mains are about $200-220. However, I don't know if I can find a sub for $200 that would work. The lowest cost KRK sub is about $300.

I'd say cans + headphone amp if $400 is your hard limit.

Doh! Didn't realize that was price per speaker. Sorry about that. I definitely don't know of anything other than cans that's a significant step up from the Edirols.

tough to go down to 25-30Hz at that price point. I agree that cans and a headphone amp is prob. the best choice given your budget.

Take care,
Ben

yeah, even looking at subs(w/ appropriate crossovers in my budget) to add to my existing speakers is revealing that most only go down to 35-40Hz.
my office is smallish anyways, a 8" sub driver is enough.

I'm looking at M-Audios' LX4 2.1 series, stands for proper satelite placement, and a decent set of cans for the best of both worlds. . .
