Title: km140 windscreens?
Post by: Nick Graham on June 18, 2004, 05:48:08 PM
My new 140s are at home waiting on me (yee ha!), so I guess
I could just wait and figure it out myself in an hour or so, but
figured I'd ask here....

Will the DPA screens fit Neumanns? If not, any suggestions?

+T to whoever can help....

welcome to the team.  ;D

I use the dpa screens and they fit fine......not too good when taping in a hurricane at bonnaroo, however :P

Lee w. gave me a set of akg screens that come with the akg caps....the small ones, they work fine in smoky places. I also run the neumann smokescreens that come with the 140 set. w

Per the archives, if you want super duper wind protection the big-ass Shure A81WS fit as well.

Ahhh...you mean the Shures I just sold cause I didn't think they'd fit the Neumanns?

+T for all the help, and I'd give myself a -T if I could...

You mean you didn't try 'em first?  Doh!!  They're a touch looser than the DPAs on the KM140s, but work very well IME.

I run the shure A81ws outside and the small dpa's inside...one day might get the middle of the road DPA's (middle btw small dpa's and the shure's).  BUT the shure's work great and eat the entire capsule. ;)  Only reason to get the better DPS screens is to use under windy sheds when stealthing, else the shure's can't be beat.  I found I like the stock 460 screens better than the stock 184 screen and only assume the stock 140 screens are comparable to the 184 screens....my 140's didn't come w/ stock screens...had the baby dpa's.

The DPAs work great with 140s.  But they are too big for low profile work (not stealth, but just low profile indoor work.)

I've seen some very small windscreens that are barely more than a foam cover for the AKxx caps.  They would not stop wind, but would keep smoke off the capsules.  They are smaller than the little neumann screens (the ones that ship with 184s), which are worthless for wind anyway.

Anyone seen them or know where to get them?

get the small DPA screens..they work fine for stealthing and low wind.  they are actually kind of small for the 140's....

Can you post that picture ? I was toying around with making a DIN bar for the mount, but I never tried to combine the ortf/xy bars, hmmmmmmm ... Regardless post the image if ya could ... Oh I use the big ball neumann windscreens outdoors and they work better than the DPA's imo ...

if you slide the little washer under the last mount on the right, it will stay put in din.
right at 20cm

Where did you get the capsule covers?   Those look nice.  When not in use, mine live in my mod'ed (makes it coudn cooler) film canisters, but those little covers would be nice for when the mice are in my pants!

I checked last night and I believe it was about 18-19 cm, but I was pretty baked so don't hold me to it, heh ...

ya I did the same and got 19cm center to center.  does this matter....don't know since there is only 3 cm diff btw card and hypers, it must have some affect...can I tell the diff...doubt it.

rise up wake and bake......
