Favorite caps for SP AT853's?......
« on: August 12, 2003, 03:30:48 PM »
I picked up a pair of these off of ebay the other day with a battery box.....

Gonna try throwing my hat in the stealthing ring  ;)

They have the card caps with them, but I am thinking about getting an additional pair while SP has everything on sale.

Which set do you guys use most/prefer, and for what situations?

Thanks in advance for the input!

Wayne

I've had a pair since '99 and have used them off & on since getting the best results from the standard card caps. I've gotten some good Omni recordings but hav been un.ucky with the hypers. If I had to settle with just one pair, hands down its the cards.

the cards...I use them for stealthing all the time with solid results.  The hypers sit unused in my closet...

I prefer using these with baseball caps...I find bathing caps to be too hard to clip to, and skullcaps are just too small.

;) ;D

Will the Soundprofessional caps fit on AT mics not put togther/made by them?

From what I've been told they are a little different. Anyone know?

The "soundprofessional caps" you mention are AT caps, straight up.  No difference whatsoever.  I have purchased a pair of caps from them for my 853s and I do not have the sound pro version.

SP makes their own body for their mics I think - but the capsules are definitely the same.   The difference between SP and AT versions are the electronics behind the capsule.

I run the at933s, and I only have the hypers (i was a n00b when i got them and didn't really know the difference).  I *love* them, they make great recordings indoors, which is where most of my recording is done...  But if you're gonna be outdoors a lot, then go with the cards.

I believe they are the actual product that AT markets for their AT933 line....whereas the sound pros model just uses the caps...

Nah, that's what the guy is calling the polar pattern on the mics, "microline."  Check out the pic:

Also, the windscreens make it look like they've got shotgun caps on them...

Edit - Unless of course, that's a cardiod pattern and I'm just a moron...But it really doesn't look like one to me, and it doesn't look like a hypercard either...
