Title: Smallest deck with phantom power
Post by: MBHOTAPER on May 04, 2017, 12:59:49 AM
Looking for advice on the smallest deck possible with phantom power for active mics? Small and good  to avoid detection. Thanks

Smallest deck isn't necessarily the best option IMO. The smallest total RIG size is what I want.

2 options (1st option is considering you appear to run the HO's):

1. HO's > Naiant IPA > Deck of choice (M10, etc). The IPA is metal, but you can probably put it in you "stuff" with your phone when passing through security.

2. DPA d-vice w/DPA 406x's. Not available yet, but if you can't get those mics & the d-vice (preamp/a>d>usb) into any venue, you ain't getting anything in. Hell you don't even need a recorder...just your phone. This will likely be my next  >:D rig.

Use a pair of DPA 4060 with the new d:vice preamp directly into the Lightning connector of an iPhone - tiny, portable and does not look like a recording rig.

Info is HERE (http://www.dpamicrophones.com/microphones/dvice/mma-a-digital-audio-interface).  :coolguy:

Looks good but spending $1500 - $1600 for the mics and pre is steep.
Is there a really small deck with xlrs and phantom power for my hos?  So far the dr100 is the closest but is 6 inches long almost as long as my mod pmd661 but thinner.
Another option I'm looking at is the mostly plastic babynbox and something small like an m10 but that requires 3 pieces (mics, battery box and deck). I would prefer just mics and small xlr deck.
Thanks for the options guys preparing for November with Herring and McLaughlin

Sonosax R82, pricey but just slightly larger than the M10, with incredible sound.

MT1 (if your mics don't require full 48 volts) or MT2?
