Today I received the Shapeways DINa and ORTF mounts.

EDIT: The ORTF does not fit in the Rycote InVision INV-7 HG MKIII mount. Has anyone ever ran into this before? If so, what was the fix seeing as how Shapeways are custom and made to order.  As it is now, I'm stuck with a mount I can't use....

The DINa fits fine...though snug and tight.

TIA

~Bryan

I think most SRS mounts are designed for Shure a53.

All 5 of mine are.

That sure would have been nice to know before buying. LOL

EDIT: Not sure I'll buy a Shure a53 mount just to run ORTF when I've already spent $$ on the Rycote that everyone seemed to recommend/suggest.

All of the Shapeways mounts I've ever bought (probably 10 at this point) have fit in the Rycote mounts. Which ones did you buy OP?
Mics: mk4v/mk41v/mk22 > CMC1L/Nbobs, 4061, MKE2
Preamps: Mixpre-D, Nbox Platinum ABS
Recorders: Mixpre-6 ii, PCM-A10

I am wondering if you may be too concerned about getting your mount into the lyres. Those pieces are pretty resilient. The problem with the A53 mounts is getting the tension right so as to not slip, more of an issue with full bodied mics. Can you confirm that the center bar is 20mm/or just over 3/4"o.d. so it should go in and stay there till you take it out. Maybe I am missing something?

Edit, I was thinking of the INV 6 style mount when writing this, and see that you have the 7 with a longer clamp style spot for the bar

From the SRS website.

Custom designed microphone mounts for recording engineers and concert tapers. These mounts are printed on industrial 3D printers from strong and flexible nylon plastic. They are extremely lightweight, but are more than sturdy enough to support a pair of pencil-type condenser microphones.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, the mounts you see in this shop are designed to be used with a 20mm shock mount such as the Shure A53M, or a conventional 20mm microphone clip. Newer mounts are being designed to accommodate the Rycote INV-6 and INV-7 Lyre suspension

Can you please give more details to "does not fit in the Rycote InVision INV-7 HG MKIII mount"?

I have a Gefell nbob active DINa mount and I use the custom SRS base with standalone Rycote lyres. The DINa and ORTF mounts are a bit too short to fit in a full size standard Rycote mount. 2nd photo is the same mount in a standard mount. It might still work, but the ORTF is even shorter and would definitely not work.

I use the Shure mount for single SRS pairs because it fits well, holds the weight no problem, and is lower profile in the air than the Rycote.  I use the Rycote for my custom dual mounts that hold 4 mics.

IMHO - The note about the newer mounts being designed to accommodate the Rycote INV-6 and INV-7 Lyre should be plastered/added to the individual product pages. The links below for the ORTF and DINa I ordered says nothing of the sort.

Attached are some pics. I edited my original post as I thought it was the DINa mount that did not work. Rather, the DINa fits and the ORTF does not

Rory - What is the speed adapter you have under the Rycote? I have the little 5/8 adapter but would prefer the speed adapter as they are MUCH easier. When those little 5/8 adapters get too tight on the stand, they can be a bear to untighten....

Yes, the ORTF is going to be too short for the full size mount. Given everything I know now, I might consider going the Shure A53M route rather than the custom SRS base with individual lyres, although that works too.

custom base (looks different than the version I purchased 5 years ago):

rapid adapter (many different manufacturers of this):

Thanks!

The custom base is the same one I have. I replaced the stock Rycote INV-7 base with the RB-A custom base.

That adapter from B&H looks clutch!

Also, I gave in and found an unused Shure a53m mount on ebay for 1/2 the price of a new one. So, it's shipped and in transit to me....

Just get a DIN bar and shelve the ORTF!

...or SELL the ORTF and fund the DIN.

I made a DIY mount using one of the small microphone stand/base adapters and two of the Audix mic clips I used with my T-Bar. I'm not buying a DIN at this point as the DIY should work just fine and WAY less expensive!

Bryan looks like you have a handle on thing at this point. Little tangent here. I have not sen this Rode/Rycote collab discussed here, but ended up buying one a little while back to hold sole line audio/cm3's in the new style SRS mount. It's a lot like the SRS center mount, but it has more options for spacing and a strain relief. It's actually centered like the SRS base too, if you disregard the strain relief, which is pretty handy sometimes. It's also cheaper than any combination of everything else, ships fast, and is returnable if need be....
