Title: UA5 question...ok I'm stupid
Post by: mmadd29 on March 29, 2007, 09:05:24 AM
I have what is probably a stupid question but have found no real information on the site.

I'm going to upgrade to a UA5 and do the mods myself...digi-mod...and poorly mod.  Now the UA5 has phantom and a preamp, this means I won't need the Art II phantom power box, and preamp that I have.....my question is:

What is the best way to connect the UA5 to my NJB3....I would think digital out to line in???  What cable do I get?

Thanks

I believe that one is toslink to toslink with a right angled toslink to mini optical adapter.  I have had a little trouble with optical adapters adding artifacts.  (YMMV I'm sure they have worked fine for some people)  I would look around for one that is a real toslink to mini optical with out the adapter.  they are easily found on ebay for not much $$$.

just my $0.02

ahh yes at a closer look that link is for the adaptor ONLY
but if you look at the ends, thats the way you want your cable to look
here is a example of another one

Just adding that I recommend a right-angle toslink to right-angle mini cable, with integrated connectors, to <1> reduce stress (via right-angles) and <2> minimize the failure points in the signal chain (by removing adapters)

Those right-right fiber cables are getting harder to find especially the 1 meter variety. I think I'm going to start going with these little nipple adapters. http://www.mycablemart.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=374  Not ideal but the normal toslink cables are cheaper and I'm not really keen on 3 meters of cable flopping around.
