It is pretty much useless. As they put it in the manual, it's a "man-bag." It's like a soft briefcase that's about 1.5x the size of the unit. It has a weird divider inside - not sure what that is intended for - the AC adapter or a spare battery, perhaps.

What's wrong with cutting out some foam to fit around the battery at the bottom of the unit, assuming you're running vertically? No need to buy a bag just to keep the thing level, IMO.

Yeah, those case logics *are* useless.  Although the second 744T we got actually had "Sound Devices" stitched into it instead of the "Case Logic" which makes it much more...uh...useless?

Anyway, we are using a larger Porta Audio bag so that we can coil cables within the same bag , and also have extra batteries, too.  We don't really want another bag for supplied, or outter patch since the SD442 is already strapped to the back of it.

Yeah but for $160? Is it really worth it if you don't have another PortaBrace bag already?

I dont have another portabrace, and my main reason for getting is to protect it from scrathces, etc, that heppen in the field.....and with my new gear bag as the mountainsmith cairn, a little protection wont hurt

the fact that it stands up is just another bonus to me...

That might require a parts change if it's based on a potentiometer and the voltage is as low as that part can go. I was wondering that myself. However, the super-bright will be nice for the sunny outdoor shows!

I have a pair or 6000mvh batteries...  use one on the machine and the other to balance it...

As for life - with phantom power no problems with 3.5 hours..  My gut would get me 4... but that is why I have two of them..

They were 43 bucks each..

I ran one of those 6000mAh batteries on constant record at 24/96 with the phantom on and ran 5:15 before shut down.

running my 722 with phantom power to my ccm41s on a 6000mah battery and i seem to be able to only get 2:15of recording time at 24/192. I realize 192 is gonna eat more battery life, but is it normal to only get a little over 2 hours? Am I doing something wrong here? This is with NO backlight on. Is there something I can do to increase battery life?

thanks,
