722 Battery Test
« on: May 03, 2005, 11:07:45 PM »
I ran a battery test today with an aftermarket 4000mAh battery.

Battery: Power2000 (aka VidPro) ACD-602 (Sony FP-F750/760) - 7.2V, 4000mAh
Bid Depth: 24
Sampling Rate: 96
Backlight: Off
Stealth Mode: No (ie: lights were all on, just no backlight)
Input: Line (no phantom)
Channels: 2

Brand new fully charged battery started at 7.9V and ran down to 6.5V at which time the 722 shut down gracefully.

Total Record Time: 5 hours, 45 minutes

I'll test the 'stock' battery tomorrow.  I didn't expect this one to go quite as long as it did.  :)

Just make sure that the phantom power is not on...  I run 6000 mah batteries and anything over 4 or 4.5 hours I consider a blessing and really get nervous...

You should be OK with 6000mAh batteries.  I ran a test with all lights on and phantom and got 5:15 before shut down.  At 4.5h you should have breathing room.

Second battery test - this time with the factory supplied battery, same settings and program material...

Battery: Energizer ER-C520 - 7.2V, 1850mAh
Bid Depth: 24
Sampling Rate: 96
Backlight: Off
Stealth Mode: No (ie: lights were all on, just no backlight)
Input: Line (no phantom)
Channels: 2

Total Record Time: 2 hours, 51 minutes

This is almost exactly 1/2 the recording time as with the Power2000 4000mAh battery which makes me think the Power2000 is really a 3700mAh unit (which is how both Sony and Energizer sell that size battery).

The two 6000's  will run a nice solid 4 hours or so.  That gets a day with no problems.  Charging overnight is the only issue.  Only one will make it overnight on the machine so I will be purchasing a separate charger for the second battery.  That should cover things.

I will also have the small battery fully charged as an emergency.

link?

I never used these types of batteries before so I'm not really sure which kind of charger is the right one to get.
