Topic: 722 and mics with very low output

I've been running my modded Nak 700's directly into my 722 and I pretty much have to have the gain knobs cranked to get decent levels and still have to add some in post. Haven't had a chance to try it at home yet and I have a couple of important shows coming up. The kind of shows were I don't want to experiment. Without running another pre in front is there anything else to try?

are you running gain on the high or low setting?  sounds like you're running on low gain.  as i'm not familiar with Nak's it sounds like they're low output and might need the high setting.*

I'm guessing you're talking about normal and low, I always run on normal and mic in, unless I have really hot mics.

The output on Naks is low to begin with. These modded 700's utilize a minus 15db attenuator barrel which makes the hole even deeper. I remember when I ran the modded 300's into the V3. Same thing. V3 levels in uncharted territory.

run the high-gain setting. its not that bad. I use it all the time recording quiet acoustic music, and am quite happy with the results (you just don;t want to peg it at full open, at 70dB, its a tad noisy. But, at 65dB, its a whole other sound).

Thats about where I've been running them and I still have to add a little in post. I guess thats not a terrible thing.

Another option I have on the mic side is to use the regular Nak 700 barrels(no attenuation). That would mean I would have to have the mod redone and with out leegeddy I don't know who to approach on this.

I undersstand Busman can bypass the attenuator in the -15dB barrel as he offered that option to our friend Gary.

Hey tony I thought you ran mod 460's. They sound sweet from what I heard. Why Nak 700?
