The Microtrak works for me when it does. But nothing has been as reliable as the PMD661 & the R44 (larger, I know)
With the microtrack, if the signal fails, of comes unplugged, it just stops the recording. With the 661 it is better, but if you unplug you might lose something. The r44 treats the digital in almost like analog in that it can be unplugged or plugged back in without stopping the recording or damaging the file.
If I were going new, I'd try the PMD-561. Biggest issue solved when you get a tight cable that's the right length.
I have an extra MT2 kicking around if you want to try it.
