Title: AD-20 question
Post by: wrangler_n_space on April 18, 2003, 08:03:46 AM
What kind of cable do you need to run ad-20 into a d-8.

I am having some real trouble getting my setup to sound right. Everything it seems works fine on its on, but when i plug it all together i olly get left channel and really really really high distortion.

I think from the ad-20 you need a 1/8 inch mono mini plug to coax cable. From there your coax should plug into the input side of your 7pin for the d8.
Hope this helps!

I tired that and i get nothing. I tried mini to mini and get both channels but awful distortion. I tried the cable the guy sent with it (mini->coax(with mini converter)) and only get one channel and horrible distortion.

Sounds like it could be a cable problem.  Cables can definitely be the culprits when things like that happen.

So what would be the best cable to use. Should i try and find an optical->7-pin. Mini to coax. Which should i replace.

And as i said before everything works by itself, just not together. That includes the cables.

I would recommend a mini to coax cable.  Just guessing here, but I would bet that the distortion is happening prior to it reaching the coax to 7 pin.

I believe the AD-20>D8 requires an active 7-pin cable; a passive won't work or gives you that funky distortion...I'm not 100% sure on that though. I've always used an active w/ mine.

I don't know about the D7/8 but neither my D3 or my D100 would work with a passive cable.  I purchaced an Oade active and have had no problems since.

Hooray for DAT: stupidest format ever!

One exception to this is the Pro Digital passive cable.  I used a Pro Digital passive 7-pin to go AD-20 > D8 and never had a problem.  Just stick the 1/8 gold tip mono plug on the coax tip and you are fine with the Pro Digital.

if it still persists, it soundz like a mic cable problem..... :'( and that can be just as costly.....the reason i mentioned the mic cables, is cause i've been having problems w/ mine.....hope this helps....
