Audio wizardry needed for file repair (without clips)
« on: November 01, 2005, 10:33:23 PM »
Thom Joad and I made a recording back in May.  It was a stealth run of Snoop and crew.

We ran 140's in a hat > Neumann BS48i Power supply > Archos.

Here is the scoop.  For some reason the sound is very low (even when the levels are boosted) and has almost a spooky screeching sound to it similar to a shedding reel.  The Wavelab phase scope looks absolutely puzzling even though the waveforms look fine.

I do not think that it was a sample rate issue.  It might have been a phantom power issue, but I have never had one before so I cannot say for sure.  I can post screen shots of the waveforms and phase scopes, and if needed a few clips of some samples.

Just looking for some insight...Kk

Yeah, that sounds pretty jacked.  I'm not sure what's causing the problem (sounds like maybe a mic powering issue? brickwalling?) but one way or the other, unfortunately, it doesn't sound hopeful that you might be able to repair that.

addition to above post:  I ran a high pass and low pass filter, and it made it *slightly* more listenable.  The bass is dominating in that sample (first sample).  and most of the distortion is in the high frequencies.  Running the two filters took away some of the undesired sound, but the leftover was still distorted sounding.  I'll see if I can attach what I did.

Also added 21 db of gain
