mic placement help
« on: January 24, 2005, 12:26:46 AM »
well i've got a great opportunity ahead of me...i'm gonna be recording a favorite punk band on several stops on an upcoming tour..potentially for a live CD....and i'm going multitrack!
i'm in the process of learning what the best mic setups will be and most nights will be pulling direct channels from the main board, but I will definitely want a mic or two to capture crowd response....so here's my question.

what is the best/2nd best mic placement/height for setting up mics on stage to capture the audience? stage lip is probably out of the question because they usually have pretty rowdy shows (MAYBE at the very left/right sides.  Also opinions on what type of mic to run? i'll probably have SM57s/58s readily on hand anything else would be a major expense (even if rented) will these work decently?  thanks -Justin
