Topic: Good cheap mic for outdoor recordings?

I've been helping my uncle who has been a photographer for 20+ years put together a small cheap rig so that he can fufill a long time wish of being able to have audio with his still photos. I've already got him a JB3 so now I need to get him a mic. He's looking to spend anywhere from $50-150. Portability is a factor in the situation, he wants something small enough that he could put in his photo bag or in a pocket. Also, he's not going to want to mess with a pre or anything extra, hopefully just mic>jb3. I was thinking something from sound professionals any other thoughts?

i would recommend an audio technica AT-822 single point stereo mic that can be battery powered with a "AA" battery for a ton of time. its easy to use and sounds good...the closer to the source the better. has dual 1/4 breakout cable or can also terminate in 3.5mm stereo minijack

new about $250, but you can get one on ebay for less....say $125 - $175.

good choice, another good option would be a pair of akg c1000 mics, however they are considerably less compact.

That may be a problem because there really isn't a source of sound that he will be specifically trying to capture. Just all the ambient sounds of his surroundings. It does sound like something he may be interested in though.
