Title: V3>HHB or P1
Post by: balou2 on April 27, 2006, 12:20:49 AM
So after reading several of the AES threads, what is best way to run from a V3 to an XLR-equipped DAT deck?  Coax is obviously an option (digi-out on V3, digi-in on recorder), but is there a befefit to running through the AES?  I suppose a benefit is the locking XLR connector, but if you use an S/PDIF cable with locking barrels there is no difference there.  Does it matter?

No benefit. Same standard for transport of digital audio..I guess the only advantage in your case would be the locking barrels.

Much obliged Mike.

the peak-to-peak voltage of an AES signal is greater than that of an S/PDIF signal.  if it were a longer run, I think AES would be a better option.  assuming a short run from the V3 > DAT deck, as Teddy said, it shouldn't make any difference.

one other thing to consider, is if you expect to have patchers.  if you take the AES signal from the V3, you can give any patchers a signal from the coax output.  I don't know if that's really a concern or not, but something to think about...

Ah...good point.  I use a right angle splitter off the coax out, so I always have a free patch.

I picked up an HHB for my back up.  I just REALLY love DAT, and even though the digital stuff is easier and cleaner, I'd like to keep some sort of DAT running.
