other PC FLAC players
« on: November 30, 2005, 03:01:21 PM »

stuck here at work and have problems with the 2 FLAC/SHN players i have tried so far:

winamp (locks up after pausing and restarting the music)
foobar  (some akrip error that doesnt allow me to even start using foobar to play)

i've searched through TS but didnt find anything else.  the company has tight lockdown for security purposes, so not everything would work, but i wouldnt mind trying.

thanks in advance.

Are you trying to play audio from streams, HD, CD?  May need Foobar plugins for streaming or CD content (foo_cdda).

Not sure of other players, but maybe try the Hydrogen Foobar2000 forum to resolve the "akrip" issue.

sorry forgot to provide that info.

i need a player just to play my cds, and one that will also playback flac/shn discs.  no streaming or anything like that.  using windows media player right now, but that doesnt handle flac/shn.

In my experience, foobar's "akrip" error comes from trying to play a CD from an account that is not the administrator (or has admin rights?). I resolved this in Win2k by right clicking the shortcut and using "run as..." to run foobar with admin rights. It's kind of the windows equivalent of sudo.
Out of the game … for now?

I use a program called oggcodecs.

 http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/oggcodecs/1099669846/1

When installed it allows you to play FLAC files in Windows Media Player.  I have never had one glitch or problem with it ever.

All you need to do is just install the program to the directory that it defaults to.  Then if you want FLAC to automatically run in WMP you need to associate it.  Right click > open with > check the always open with box and select WMP.

I have gapless playback in Windows Media Player 10 with the oggcodecs set up.

nice!

Ive used winamp extensively but only until winamp 5.07

never tried the windows media player either, well, not in years, had no clue they had a flac/shn plugin

sucks to hear foobar doesnt play nicely, cause it works like a charm on my end
