Topic: 722 help - skipping?

seem to have some sort of a 'skip' in the music from one of my HSMF recordings

recording line in @ 24/96. i've had this same problem once before when recording mic in.

so the folder is there and inside the folder is:
t202 (nothing, maybe about 10sec of record before they even started, scrap this)
t203 (first segment of the set 57:39) 2gig limit, file split
t204 split seems ok, but this file is only 3min33sec
i paste this one into 203 and it matches up at the beginning, but towards the end of the 3:33 it seems to have a strange skip of some sort
the next file is labeled t204A, and is the full 2 gig - 57:39
but when i paste 204a  to the end of 204, they dont seem to match up correctly.
the final track is t205, which is 48:59 in length.
when pasting track 205 to the end of 204A they DO seem to match up correctly.

This is quite odd and if anyone can shed any light on this for me i'd greatly appreciate it.

I've had this happen twice.  Both times I was on the last bit of HD space, deleted a few files to make room for the new recording, and had an audible 'skip' where the 722 wrote a new file.  Both times the 'skip' was between the "(filename)T##" and "(filename)T##A".  It appears there is a write error and the 722 automatically creates a new file at that instant and tags it "A".

Empty off the HD and reformat.  The problem will go away.  I used to experience the same thing when trying to record on a laptop with a very fragmented HD.

thanks for the forewarning, i will def always format/repair the drive before any festies

now i need another damn external HD all-good is gonna FILL UP my HD

anyway try the 1.79 firmware supposedly the firewire is 2x as fast as it is in 1.74, but im gonna wait til other folks try it out first

i was using an Iomega 60gb portable drive to hold some stuff, which i then deleted

now the drive wont read and my bakups are on there... anyone good w/ drives, wanna take this thing apart and see if you can get it to read the data?
i'll be making a post in the computer section soon

well, im gonna use my external firewire HD im gonn a be buying for the home comp, until the HDD mirroring gets resolved

now the drive wont read and my bakups are on there... anyone good w/ drives, wanna take this thing apart and see if you can get it to read the data?

well the problem is that windows isn't seeing the drive when i plug it in via firewire or usb
sounds like its spinning and making a clicking noise

i dont doubt the data is there, but getting it to read is the problem

hmm, i;ve noticed a few pops and clicks in some of my recent stuff (including wakarusa) drive was hardly ever past 75% full and it hasn't been between autosplits but rather in the middle of files in various places.

anyone had similar issues?

On the other drive, the clicking sound is the sound of death.  It might be possible to get something back but it will probably not be easy and may require a pro.

no clicking or popping in my file. just a weird skip in the music, then the file ends and it starts writing a new file.
pretty consistent with the "error thing" that free lunch mentions.

Thanks for all of the info, i'll try to do some tests. I was consideirng upgrading to a larger drive anyway. Anyone out there done the swap themselves?

as for the portable iomega... i think that i'm SOL. any help from a 'pro' will be $$$$ and i'm not sure that the files on there are worth the $.
i may just return the drive at fry's - but i may be too late for refund.... exchange only. now i'm wondering how reliable the drive itself is... not sure i even want a new one.

Speaking of, is there any runtime software on the drive itself or is it just a physical swap?  Curious although I don't really want to open it up ever again...putting it back together was an hour project last time...those damn tabs couldn't be any more EXACT to get lined back up.
