Im feeling like the tubes in my dbx386 preamp are shot - the past few outings have produced dull, dark sounding recordings...
The manual lists them as 12AU7...
Any recommendations?

I know the guy at Eurotubes (http://www.eurotubes.com/) likes the JJ Electronics tubes; about their 12AU7 he says
ECC82-12AU7
Factory description: Special grid plated by gold to reduce microphone interaction and noise.
My observation: Once again a world class tube. Wonderful in Hi-Fi and guitar amps. Very smooth and detailed with a great open sound.
Aloha,
Brad

My Tung-Sols have been playing fine since 1971 :o
Many of the newer 12AU7s are made extra durable to withstand guitar-cabinet use
Are you sure that the caps aren't aging?
I have found sometimes that caps have shorter life than tubes!
