Cool - let us know how it goes!  Did you ever complete your "stereo bars"  for the VM-44's?

hot licks > microphones > recorder

...ball of confusion, that's what the world is today, hey hey...

I just finished  a stereo bar  last night
I'm calling it v.1  as it could be better, not as slick as I had hoped for- but it totally works.
It is made out of PVC pipe- one from Delrin rod nicely machined (in a shop I don't have) would be nicer.

I need to look at the pics and edit  them in photoshop - then get them up on photobucket
so I can share them here which may nopt totally happen until after the weekend

basically it is a bar that can easily do ORTF (which is what I most always use) and DINa (which could come in handy - if I am a bit farther back)  - you could probably use it for a crosed (sopaced) XY - I am just not fond of the XY image- so I probably won't do that.

you do not need to post your pics to photobucket and link them here at this site to post up photos; there is an attachment option here where you can attach your pics directly to a post, up to something like 6 pics per post, there is a file size per pic limit however

Congratulations on the new babies Ian!

FWIW, the owner before me that had the Links (that I owned for a short time) got a little over zealous when he pushed the connector together with the grommet on the body.  One of the pins somehow became misaligned and he boogered up the plastic part of the female side of that connector just a little bit (can't remember if that was on the connector or the mic body).

I can't really figure out how he did it, but...

Just a lesson learned I'm passing along and maybe something to be a bit careful of...don't put alot of force on the connector unless you know the all of the pins are well aligned.  Probably not a whole lot of reason to disconnect the cables anyway.

I think when I got them I asked others about this and it seemed to be a very isolated incident.

thanx for passing on the info
I don't have a reason to disconnect the cables- I don't think?
in fact I wasn't really award they could disconnect- since the caps would stay attaced to the cables  I see no real reason for it

Just went out and got a Pelican  1040 cse for them they seem to fit cables n all - except the windscreens

You're right...there really is no reason to disconnect the cables.  The person I bought them from when I had them I think stored them broken down, but I think that's asking for trouble.  Being able to disconnect the cable _IS_ a nice feature of the VM-44 Links though, so that the cable can be conveniently replaced if it ever becomes damaged.

Click on the link below...that's what the amplifier body looks like with the cable detached.  You can see from this photo that there is a connector at the top of the body.  That's the connector I referred to in my earlier message that got a little bit messed up when the previous owner of the mics 'forced' the cable pins a little too much.

really?  wow.  so can you connect the capsule directly to the body and bypass the active cable then?  that's what kept me from picking up a pair of these but if that's the case I may need to re-evaluate...
