cheap preamp/batt box for stealthing
« on: September 10, 2003, 11:02:32 AM »
I have been thinking of getting an deneke ad-20 inbox to use with my
at853's (sp's) and jb3... However I am a little concerned over the size...
You can only stuff so much gear down your pants.

And if I can get in a ad-20, batt box, mics and jb3...  I could probably get in a UA-5+batteries in place of the ad-20!

I just saw this...

Has anyone used this? Is this preamp just as bad as the jb3's?
Would it be pointless? I'm not as worried about the jb3's a>d which
supposedly isn't too horrible.

Also at853's aren't exactly high end... So it seems a little silly
to spend 2x as much on the preamp/a>d as on the mics. If I had some
nice DPA's I would think about the inbox (or sonosax, etc) - but with
my low end at853's the cheap preamp might be right up my alley.

It's just so tempting... and small... and cheap... :)

I've seen posts saying sound pro's version is ok...  But I haven't seen any info about the MM version.

looks cool, but why not just add the preamp option to the sound pro box, costs the same and its all in one box.

I already have the sound pros box...

I wonder if they will add a preamp later?

Also if the other one sounds just as good - I could sell my old sound pro box for a few bucks...

I have run this recently AT831s > Battery box w/ base roll-off at 95 htz. > attenuators-20dB > AD-20 > MD

pretty sure the AT853 and 831 caps are the same, that is, if you get card caps.

If you are just getting into taping, you will be super pleased with this sound.  Just make sure you have attenuators going into the AD-20 or else you'll be running too hot.

as for the size, you might have to donate a testicle to get the jb3 in
