How to hold your gear
« on: June 24, 2007, 12:09:53 PM »
I'm getting a iRiverHP120, battery box, and Church Audio mics. How do you guys get your gear in without being caught?

Be creative - it's not terribly difficult to figure out.  For those responding, please consider keeping stealth, stealth, and doing so via PM.

Is there honestly any doubt as to the best place to stealth gear and that being the case would there be anyone that works in security that doesn't know the best place. It's then just a case as to whether they are prepared to search that place on hundreds or thousands of people.

From my experience they're not.

two weeks ago at a show in SC, i had a security guy make me take my ball cap off, then he proceeded to inspect the inside for about 40 seconds ::) he ran his fingers around that little lip inside several times.i really wanted to tell him how much of an idiot he was.

Different people have different techniques that work for them.  Not everyone uses precisely the same tactics.  I think it's unwise to discuss openly some of the creative options.  Others may disagree, in which case they're free to post whatever they wish.  I just don't think it's a good idea.

He wasn't an idiot, he was searching for drugs.  I've had my cap searched going into Panic and Phil shows several times at the Tower in Philly.  When I asked why, thats what the security dude told me.  I thought he was just fucking with me for wearing a Capitols cap up there but he said people hide joints in between the band and the cap.

You're talking about the same place used to sneak a cell phone into prison, right?

More importantly, who is the babe in nameloc01 avatar?

Security is more interested in drugs and alcohol than tape equipment

try throwing gear really high up in air and once in catch inside stadium.
there is  not one method, but many.
you obviously should be creative on your own.
if you need to ask your not being creative , just lazy .
oh but you can be so creative. so so creative.

i have faith in you to work something out for yourself.

beset and easiest way to get gear in (and keep it in) is to make friends with some of the security at your local venues.  Security at most venues are people just like you and me and are there for the music and would love a copy.  I know I have made a few of them happy over the years.

Just don't try to make friends with them BEFORE a show you're there to stealth.  Do it afterwards if they looked like they had a good time...and to be on the safe side, hand your gear off to someone else prior to talking with security.

Anyone know what tool security does with rigs that they find? Do they take it for the show.  Keep it? Throw you out?

that probably depends on who catches you, and what kind of a mood the are in.at the APC show in cleveland a few years ago ,my buddy was trying to take a few pictures up front.MJKs personal security goon, grabbed my buddy by the neck and knocked the camera right out of his hand.the guy took the chip and escorted my friend out (roughly) by the collar.
i always assume that if you get caught, you're gonna lose it.( although you prob wont, just assume)
keep everything coolio.
