I have a Sandisk Ultra II 4gb SDHC card and it works great in my R-09. I can get about six hours at 16-bit and four hours at 24 bit. Uploading to my HD is usually pretty quick. I'd like an 8gb but I want to make sure I get one that's compatible. rWc3523 :headphones:

Thanks Russ - I have since noted the sub-forum for media.

I think 4gb will be more than sufficient for my purposes in the meantime. Cheers!

Just saw this on Edirol's site, here is the readme and the link to the download:

PC: http://www.roland.com/products/en/_support/goFtp.cfm?sRcId=0000020382&sDlId=0000048689
MAC: http://www.roland.com/products/en/_support/goFtp.cfm?sRcId=0000020382&sDlId=0000048712

Looks like better support for 8gb SDHC cards, that is all thats shown in the PDF: http://www.roland.com/products/en/_support/goFtp.cfm?sRcId=0000020382&sDlId=0000048737

SO, I consider myself above average computer literate etc...I followed the update instructions exactly as they are written for the 1.30 firmware update and it just doesn't work!  My r-09 has 1.20 installed out of the box...I've tried it both ways...USB2 and SD directly into a slot on the PC and I have no direct access to the "root directory" and the r-09 doesn't look for it and install from the SD.  YEs- I am using the original formated 64meg card that came with the unit. I'm running a Sony Vaio Windows XP.   Any help would appreciated...many thanks in advance!  pm me here or email at dgs711@comcast.net

Sorry to hear that, I am on a mac and i was able to put on the 1.30 firmware.  It sounds like you are doing all the  right things.  I htink the 1.30 comes zipped, so after download you unzip? then dmz file needs to go on the edirol icon.  China_rider has done it and so has josephine they could help with the PC thing.

I just bought an r-09 from the YS and was wondering how do I know which firmware is currently installed on the unit?

When you first turn it on, look at the bottom left corner of the display screen.  There you will see Ver. 1.xx  That will be your firmware version.

when you unzip, you should be able to click on the unzipped file? yes? then in there you should see a DMZ file extension.   YOu just have to take that file and drag it or how you would put it to your drive " n".  First, you might after connecting your Edirol wiht the usb to the PC you might want to click on your DRive " n" and take the DMZ file off your edirol which will be your 1.20 vesion, then do the above...unzipping the file...click the unzipped file find the DMZ extension and put that on your edirol r-09/ removable disk drive " N", then once done you need to disconnect edirol properly from your PC then as you start up the edirol for the first time hold down the " rec" button until the screen appears

MANY THANKS!  For this step by step - and might I add simple instructions!  I'm almost afraid to ask about the final piece to the process...but where did you learn about the holding down the record button upon powering up the r-09? I don't see this step anywhere.   You've all been a great help. Have a wonderful Holiday season - may Santa  fill yer stockings with AA 2700 rechargables.

I am glad it worked. where I learned the hold the " record" button to set the new firmware was actually in the original PDF file that came with the first update that edirol put out. Its in the instructions after I think were it states about disconnecting from the PC-- after putting on the new firware--then there is something about holding down the " record" button to set the new firmware.  I really just posted from memory I am very glad that you got it to work.  AGain, i wrote those instructions from memory and  i am glad they proved to be understandable and reliable.

as far as SDHC card compatibility goes, this is the link posted on the Edirol site regarding it. I just bought a 8Gb Class 6 Transcend card to use with the 1.30 upgrade, hopefully it works. This list says it does. I had tried the Transcend 4 Gb/Class 2 cards previously without checking this list first and they didn't work.

FWIW (been meaning to post this), I have a Kingston 8gb SDHC Class 4 card working just fine.

The model number is "SD4/8GB" and I paid about $40 after rebate.

So I did a test yesterday and today with the 1.30 firmware for the R-09. I used a new Transcend 8Gb/Class 6 card with the R-09 settings at 24/48 and a 2Gb file split. Once formatted the card capacity reads 7.5Gb's. Yesterday I tried the internal mic's with no problems, today I used my AT853 card's > Aerco MP-2> R-09 setup with no problems. I got a recording time of 02:04:12 for each file before it split at the 2Gb boundary. The Transcend 8Gb/Class 6 card worked error free so there should be no speed issues with these SDHC cards unless it becomes a card by card problem like the previous issues regarding the Transcend 4Gb/Class 2 cards. I bought the Transcend 8Gb/Class 6 card from newegg.com for just under $45. Hope this helps some of you.

edit: $34.99 after $10.00 rebate is now being offered

How did you notice a gap at the split?  I have recorded many many shows on 4gb cards with no gaps and 1 or 2 on an 8gb card with no gaps.
