data recovery software (Free)
« on: April 08, 2007, 02:43:23 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this..
Yet does anyone have suggestions for data recovery software that is free?
I have been trying to use this program called PC Inspector smart recovery and it has recovered 3 files but it's super slow and my computer keeps crashing before it can finish.
I don't know if it's the program or just an old computer with a host of other issues..
So I'm still looking for something free that will get the job done. I am about finished trying to salvage this but I thought I'd give it one more go before completely calling it quits and reformatting the card.
Scenario: 8 gb compact flash card,  Win XP
tascam HD-PD won't even read it anymore. Card reader has no problems I can browse it on windows but the files I want are not viewable although the program I am using did salvage 3 files all of course non music related..

I suggest reading this thread: http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,67465.0.html
Try the products linked there. While they aren't free, the trial versions should let you see if the files are even found. If they are, only you can decide if they are worth the price of the program(s) full version.

While it's often been said that you get what you pay for, with data recovery it's especially true. If you really want something free, try googling data+recovery+program+free.

appreciate the tip but I have done the query you suggested.
Already tried 2 different programs. The data is not important enough to me to drop any money at all. If the bar band wants their stuff bad enough and no guarantee it won't be corrupted anyway they can pay for the software.
But thought I'd ask here first before writing it off and trying 16 flavors of free software.
