3-Wire battery box...
« on: August 08, 2007, 02:33:57 PM »
Hi all,

Sorry if I seem all over the place at the moment, I'm still trying to decide 100% which mics to get and how to power them.

My first choice was the AT933. I've did searches and found that they are best used with either phantom power or a 3-Wire Battery Box.

How would this 3-Wire BB work?? (I only have an SP-SPSB-1 batt box). I'm guessing you plug the 2 miniXLR connectors into it and then the output is a 1/8'' Jack so I can plug into my Iriver/or most other recorders.
Also, where could I get one for a good price and possibly the smallest available (for 100% stealth).

Thanks,
Simon.

P.S. Can't do phantom as its just too costly and harder to stealth (and I stealth 99% of the time).

Hi Liquid Drum,

I noticed nobody replied to your questions yet. Basically, you've got the theory right.

AFAIK, only Church Audio sells 3-wire BB retail, the rest of the bunch is DIY projects (although the quality on a DIY might be just as high).
If you're buying from Chris Church, he will probably convince you into buying the ST-9100 instead (3-wire BB/preamp combo unit)

I've been looking for other BB vendors, but haven't found any others, so please post any new selling points that you might discover.

Thanks for the reply. Turns out I didn't need it just yet (got myself a diff set of mics - MM-HLSC-1) but I still look to order some AT943 in future (maybe near nov/dec) to try out so the info won't go to waste.
