I love my playback system with my old Acoustic Research M2 two ways powered by a Hafler Transnova MOSFET amp. The tubey sound of the complimentary FET design of the amp and the crisp sound of the speakers - supplemented with a 10inch subwoofer to fill in the bottom - is perfect for my mix desk. Not totally flat, but for what it costs and how it performs, pretty killer sounding for 30+ year old pieces based on even older technology.

Yes, a stacked pair, but only the top is wired. The bottom one mostly acts as the stand. They are a beautiful sounding stereo pair as well.

Pioneer PL-07e
1964 idler drive turntable

This is a rare version of this deck, with the cast aluminum top plate. Most are with a thin stamped steel top plate.

img-0329:
The deck arrived essentially, D.O.A.
The motor would start, and then after about 20sec it would die.  It would start again, and then die in half time, and so on, until about the fourth try, it wouldn't start.
So, I found that the motor drive capacitor was burned out, and, realized it to be Unobtanium.
So, I traced the internal capcitors, and rebuilt myself a drive capacitor, and, the deck came roraing back to glorious life.  This is an amazing deck! Sarge has claimed it as hers, because she likes white appliances.
At any rate, this is the motor, a monster drive, with oil lube tubes, and its newly refurb'd cap (orange-red caps on the black acrylic chip).

Lenco L75 c. 1975
*The Prenco
heavily modified, and mounted to a massive 3/4" laminated birch ply plinth.
I took the normal rectangular steel top plate, and, cut it to look my my Presto Pirouette T-18 broadcast deck.
I mounted two 12" cherry tonearms on it, one as a stereo arm, and the other as a mono arm.

*Presto is an old radio broadcast TT manufacturer, dating back to the 20's  They were eventually bought by Bogen, and, became Bogen-Presto. Eventually, B-P licensed with Lenco to build decks labeled as Bogen-Presto, which were Lenco's with B-P badges.
my two Prestos are real early Presto, and my Bogen-Prestos are the Lenco rebadged decks.
I wanted the L75 to match the Presto Pirouette profile and design, so it became the Prenco.

The rectangular top plate was cut away, to eliminate top plate flex, and, allowing the remaining top plate material to contact the plinth directly  A bearing support was desigend into it as well, to  completely tie the deck to the plinth.

6223 is an exeriment in building my DIY unipivot tonearm from the Presto Pirouette project

Cool !
I dont run anything older than the mid 70's.   Not for any reason, other than that I acquired good stuff from that vintage.

Are those Bozaks open back?

Are those Bozaks open back?

No, totally closed design.  The back panels are a higher density patrticle board, or perhaps something akin to early mdf
This is about as close as I have to a pic of the back. This one was on arrival home after picking them up.

The only thing I've done to them was to add a new set of cable connectors to them. They had silly little screws. I added multiple tap connectors (heavy cable, banana, etc).

adding,...
These started life as the b300 coaxial speakers.  They had a simple first order capacitor to split signal between woofer and tweeters, which bridge the woofer, and are angled outwardly, simlar to a narrow aspect DIN angling.
In/around 1978, the original owner had Bozak do the conversion to the b302a status, which also upgraded all of the drivers, and, added a crossover component.
In speaking to the orignal owners son, he liked my approach to audio, recording, playback, etc. So, he excused himself, and went back into the house, and came back out with his fathers turntable, which he just gave to me as I was ready to leave.
that is the deck, a Rek-O-Kut single speed belt drive 33.3rpm

Nice !
I have a good friend with a room full of Cathedral and Catalan early 20th century AM radios.

I love that era in electronics!
Everything was magic, yet both visible and understandable.
The DSP stuff of our time is amazing, but somehow not as accessible.

This is a old Maggie el84 push pull.  7 WPC.  Think it was pulled from an old jukebox.  Old, but not originally mine from new but deff appreciated.  When the taping hobby ends,  classic home audio gear will take over I'm thinking.  Wife would love that.   The money has to go somewhere,  right?  Deff not a trip to Disney  ;D
