702, 722 and 744 question about line in
« on: July 15, 2010, 10:34:35 PM »
So.. On the 702/722/744 can you plug something into the microphone input and run it as line in (with the phantom off)

basically I have an Nbox (which powers my mics already) so i basically would just want to plug into the recorder via the microphone inputs as a line in.

Can this be done???  in reading the manual it sounds like it can be done, but I would hate to buy one of these just to find out that it is not the case.

Thanks!

yes the xlrs are mic/line jacks

as I am reading a little more it says this:
Line-Level Gain Control
When in line-level position, the gain for inputs 1 and 2 is controlled by the front panel recessed potentiometers or by a menu sensitivity setting. When set for front panel control in the user menu, LineInput1:Gain and LineInput2:Gain controls in the user menu are lined out and not accessible.

what does that mean? I am reading this to say that you cannot use the gain knobs on the front to control line in. is this correct?

no you absolutely can add or take away gain with the front knobs when running line-in

eta: that just means that if you have chosen to change gain with the knobs, that the menu-driven gain changing is not an option. its either one or the other, not both at the same time

nbox>722 works great. i have used this setup both line in and mic in (with phantom off) and never noticed a problem.
